Ashley Webb
Interim ROC Director
In 1984, the church’s long-range planning committee recommended that we build a recreation building. No time was set, but for about 15 years, the Family Life Center Committee looked at various sites and options for such a ministry. However, in 1999, the St. Andrew Catholic Church decided to relocate and their property across the street became available.
In May, 2000, the church voted to purchase their property. In December 2002, the church voted to build a new gymnasium building, with a connecting ped-way to the former sanctuary.
On December 14, 2003, we dedicated our Recreation and Outreach Center, known now as The ROC. Ashley Webb now serves as our Interim ROC Director.
The building is "about health and recreation, with a purpose." The purpose is that we want everything we do to point people to Jesus Christ, praying that each person will become a follower of Jesus and will grow in their relationship with him. We want to use the ROC to minister to people and provide opportunities for fellowship and service. During our first year, we estimate that over 65,000 visits have been made to the ROC.
Two favorite activities are walking and recreational uses of the gym floor, such as basketball and volleyball. One of our largest programs is Upward Basketball for kindergarten through the sixth grade, which runs from November through early March annually.
The ROC also is used regularly for Sunday School, His Kids, Internationals, sports clinics, health fairs, fellowship events, and many other activities. It’s a busy place at Chiles and Moorland.
