The idea for the foundation was conceived in the mind
of Mr. Ott Elliott during the early 1930's at the height of the
great depression. This was a time in our history, when men
were losing their farms and businesses, and when everyone seemed to
be in the "Valley of the Shadow". Mr. Elliott made a
commitment to God, promising the Lord, that should he acquire any
material possessions, they would be given back to be used in His
service.
Mr. Elliott was faithful to his commitment and in June
of 1954, the Foundation was organized with a board of directors
chosen from the membership of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. The
purpose of the Foundation is to provide financial assistance to
qualified, dedicated persons who are preparing themselves for
Christian vocations, and to financially assist the Kentucky Baptist
Child Care programs.
The beginnings were small. However, with the
passing years, the Foundation has continuously grown. All
contributions are placed in a perpetual fund and only the earnings
from the investments may be used.
In keeping with the purpose of the Foundation and
following the admonition of the Apostle Paul as stated in First
Timothy 6:19, "Laying up in store for themselves is a good
foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on
eternal life," and believing, "It more blessed to give than to
receive", the Foundation directs that the earnings from it's
investments be used with 45% going for Kentucky Baptist Child Care
programs, and 45% to provide scholarships for students in full-time
preparation for Christian vocations. The remaining 10% of its
earnings are contributed to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church as
representative of the tithe required by our Lord.
Through the years, many dedicated people have
remembered the Foundation with their material possessions.
Gifts, including contributions in monies, real estate and
securities are regularly received as memorials to departed loved
ones and funds from wills of interested persons. Others choose to
include this organization as part of their regular Christian
Giving.
